Health & Wellness
The goal of the Health and Wellness program in the upper grades is to educate our students on how to live their best, healthiest lives. Topics covered include self-care and appreciation, human development, healthy relationships, nutrition, and mindfulness.
Our Health and Wellness curriculum is designed to help students implement positive and safe changes to daily life through student-focused, discussion-based classes.
The practice and teaching of mindfulness is also a pillar of our Health & Wellness program. Students learn how to be in the present moment through breath work, imagery, journaling, visual art, body relaxation exercises, and movement activities.
Students are taught tools and exercises that help facilitate self-regulation, help identify when they are feeling big emotions, and decide how to respond to those emotions. Students explore how to connect to their breath and find stillness in their body and mind while finding a deeper sense of well being. They also focus on gratitude, generosity, acceptance, body language, and learning how to cooperate, collaborate, and compromise with classmates.
In Physical Education, we expose students to a variety of sports, activities, and different ways to move their bodies. This, in turn, shows students that there isn not just one way to be active.
In addition, students in grades first through eighth have recess two times per day, with our youngest students getting outside up to three times per day!
