Secondary School Placement
The secondary school placement process is a key component of the experience of every St. Michael’s student. Our goal is to provide support and guidance to students and families so each student makes a smooth and successful transition to high school.
We accomplish this through events and programs, such as:
-
A secondary school fair where 7th grade students have the opportunity to meet with admissions representatives from many different day and boarding schools.
-
During the summer prior to the 8th grade, the head of school meets with each 8th grade student and their family to discuss the timeline and checklist of tasks.
-
As part of the English curriculum, teachers work with students on writing personal narratives and answering interview-type questions.
-
In the fall of 8th grade, SSAT/standardized test prep strategies are taught in English and math classrooms ahead of any admissions testing.
-
The head of school communicates regularly with secondary schools to make sure supporting materials are delivered in a timely fashion.
-
St. Michael’s also hosts a closed SSAT session for our students to complete the examination on campus, in a familiar setting with their peers. This assessment is required by many secondary schools as a part of the admission process.
St. Michael’s students are typically lauded by secondary schools for their academic preparation, contributions to the school community, and participation in activities and athletics beyond the classroom.
We Believe in Your Child’s Future
After St. Michael’s Country Day School, our students make their way to a number of independent secondary schools, parochial schools, and public schools. Below is a list of independent schools to which our students were accepted from 2016 to 2021.
